Apparently these are now sold in America

Only as an EV. The only way it could have been a petrol-powered variant is if it was on Canadian or Mexican plates.

I saw a blue one the other day and was like, “Hey B-class.”
My wife doesn’t understand me and the chasm grew wider.

Possibly the Electric Drive? I can’t really see a reason for them to import a model (small minivan) the US market isn’t interested in, other than to reduce their average emissions.

Don’t you guys get those in all electric form or something? We have them here and I’m not that excited about them. I can buy a CPO with ultra low miles for like 15K but it’s still a 200hp FWD Mini-minivan.

It’s like someone took a hatchback skin and stretched it over a minivan. U-G-L-Y.

The B Class electric is sold state side..i think.

Yeah, they’re electric

they are hatchbacks though. just really tall one

I think they only sell the electric one in the US. I had one as a rental in Germany and it was great, I secretly want one, if they ever imported a petrol one to the US, I’d be tempted.

We had the B-Class for ages here in Europeland…
…But why does everyone want one? I don't get it.

I'm re-reading an excellent book call the Five Love Languages, but even the revised version still doesn't include "Obsession with Obscure and Rare Automobiles."

I never realized there were that many 70 year olds here.

Which basically describes virtually every compact cute-ute/crossover, the most popular and fastest growing segment in the world. At least this one looks worlds better than the Ford C-Max.

My fiancé is okay with me wanting a Toyota Corona but not an imported Century. I need a novel to tell me how to show her what cool cars are.. I mean it has fender mirrors AND tattle tales AND is JDM
![]() 06/03/2016 at 17:15 |

They’re electric, boogy woogy woogy
![]() 06/03/2016 at 17:16 |

Stock fender mirrors should trigger an automatic BUY response from most gearheads. Oh, and watch out — at the last minute, she'll be like "Corona is just Spanish for 'Crown' which is 'Kanmuri' in Japanese, or just 'Camry' in English. Happy birthday, I got you a Camry!"

Wait what makes me a 70 year old? xD
I don’t mind the B-Class, just not too excited about it myself.

eww. We don’t have any here at my store. Mexico plates?

I figured, even in Europe they’re not selling well anymore, it’s crossovers in all shapes and sizes everywhere.
I actually drove an electric B last week (just around the block), and it was somewhat disappointing. If you put your foot to the floor you get the instant torque surge, but throttle response is otherwise non-existent. The general lack of feedback (especially sound) is what threw me off most actually, but I guess you get used to it (first time driving an electric car).

Exactly. Luckily she understands most cars coolness but the Century will take some time. FJs, restoring my LS400, and modified Coronas are all good to go though. She even said she would make fun of me for getting a NX

My wife's view on classics is like the Supreme Court on porn: "I'll know it when I see it." Thankfully, that means she can see a mid-80s BMW 6-series and understand my lust. But a '91 Miata? Chick car!
![]() 06/03/2016 at 17:23 |

No, the opposite. In my experience those that drive a B-Class tend to be, well,
old
.

She drives an RX so the NX was too close. I have a big dog now though so I might be getting a GX for dog duties/off road fun.

The GX and GS are my two favorite Lexuses of all time, I think. I do love the original LS400, though — it really shook up the Germans at the time, I'll never forget when they first came out.
![]() 06/03/2016 at 17:29 |

I’ve never driven one.
When I said we have them in Europe I just meant they were sold here.
And yeah, they tend to be driven by those people.

Mines a 1998 and I’ve had too many memories to just give it up. Also the 3rd gen LS400 is easily one of the top 5 prettiest sedans ever. Just look at it.
![]() 06/03/2016 at 17:33 |

Yep — I like how they've kept the design restrained over the years, it really helps the car age well (especially when it lasts forever!)
![]() 06/03/2016 at 17:35 |

After I graduate i might look at the spindle grill LS460s. Absolutely love them.

Same as the Honda Jazz, Golf Plus and every small Suzuki.

They only sell the Electric Drive B-Class in the US, but in Canada they sell the whole range. They’re everywhere in Toronto.
![]() 06/03/2016 at 18:46 |

The badge simply says “Electric Drive” on the US cars.
I wonder why it doesn’t say B-anything back there. Legal/marketing reasons?

Sold in ‘murica for two years now, but it was limited to only 8 states for at least half of that time. As others have said, electric only.

I sat in on a two-hour discussion based on that book. There was a lot in there that was not bad for discussion.

I figured they must sell them up in Canada or something. I’ve see a couple down here.

I’ve seen the small all electric Merc in SF lately

I see one every once in a while here in South Carolina. Always with Canadian plates.

“Every time a 2CV drives by, he turns and stares at its rear end while mumbling something about being 'so French and curvy.' It's driving me mad with jealousy."
